… on the three sketch options from the Landscape Architects. The master plan is expected to be completed by the end of June 2012. We will be taking copies of this to various locations around the town; the library, the new Meridian Health & Wellbeing Centre; local schools; Peacehaven Town Council and other locations. There will be 3 weeks for you to view and comment on this. Watch this space and keep in touch via the mailing list to be sure to be kept informed. http://www.bigparksproject.org.uk/keep-in-touch/
Thank you to those who came to the design workshops yesterday, especially in the evening as the weather was dreadful. We counted in 82 people throughout the afternoon and evening, and have your comments and feedback on the three designs. If you couldn’t make it to the sessions, do not worry, follow the link below to take you to the designs. Unfortunately the architects will not be able to answer any questions you have directly, but please do contact Jackie Blackwell (01273) 484394 from the Big Parks Project.
Allen Scott Ltd present their 3 sketch options based on the results of the community consultation; the site & planning constraints; the archaeological findings; assessment of existing facilities in the town and the available budget. Meet, view and discuss the plans with them:-
DESIGN WORKSHOP - WEDNESDAY 18th APRIL
1pm – 3.00pm (ANZAC ROOM, MERIDIAN CENTRE)
5.00pm – 7pm (ANZAC ROOM, MERIDIAN CENTRE)
These plans show three distinctly different interpretations of YOUR ideas and concepts. These plans will help you imagine how the completed park may look.
These are not the ‘final designs’ – but it will be from these 3 plans the final master plan will be created.
If you are unable to attend on this day, the sketch designs will be available here from 19th April for you to choose your preferred parts of each design. If you are a group or organisation that would like us to visit you with the plans, please get in touch with Jackie Blackwell on 01273 484394. The closing date for this phase of design is FRIDAY 27th APRIL.
It is anticipated that the MASTER PLAN will be completed by the end of June 2012

From three seats to over 150 seats: the original stand at Peacehaven & Telscombe FC with the site of the Big Park behind it.
The club has been successfully making changes over the years to include their new increased and improved stand. Each of the small changes continue to strengthen and improve the club.
Presently the club are looking to replace their old flood lights and fencing and, like the Big Parks Project, need to work in partnership with the community to achieve their long term plans.
The two recent community planning sessions held at Community House in Peacehaven on 20th and 27th October attracted a mixture of local residents plus sports and leisure groups. At the first session on 20th October, representatives from Lewes District Council’s Planning, Environmental Health and Parks departments were on hand to answer questions and concerns together with representatives from Sussex Police and Southern Water.

Chris Bibb, Project Manager of the Big Parks Project was on hand to answer questions at both events…

Sally Harper from Active Sussex came along to the second session on 27 October and was able to give advice to local basketball group who are keen to be involved in the new park development…

Local skateboarders who are keen to see an extended skate facility in the town waited patiently to have their views heard…

Local people and local groups made their suggestions based on the layout options at both events. This information, together with the results of the questionnaire and other surveys will all contribute to the final design made by the Landscape Architect in November/December 2011.

The project board representatives Chair of the Board, Cllr Andy Smith, Director of Planning, Lindsay Frost, Project Manager, Chris Bibb & Principal Architect Nigel Sharpe from Lewes District Council; Cllr Alan Sergeant & Town Clerk Kevin Kingston from Peacehaven Town Council; James Clarke from Peacehaven Community School, Sue Griffiths, Chair of the REGEN Partnership and Jackie Blackwell, Community Consultant for the Big Parks Project took time out last week to visit three different local venues. The board visited Horntye Park in Hastings, Saffrons Park and Hampden Park in Eastbourne to look at different models of parks and to learn some lessons from what works and doesn’t work in each of the parks.
Around 250 people of all ages came along to the event on Friday 7th October taking part in hands-on workshops with East Sussex Archaeology and Museums Partnership and looking at the pottery and flint tool findings …

Rob Masefield, consultant Archaeologist for Southern Water gave two fascinating talks about the findings and the settlements discovered in the dig at the new park site. With such a great local interest, maybe we should include aspects of archaeology into the new park development?

See a summarised version of the feedback on display around the town until 20th October. At the moment it’s on the windows of the co-op cafe in the Meridian Centre, tomorrow on 7th October it will be at our Digging into the Past event in Community House. Jackie Blackwell and Chris Bibb from the Big Parks Project will be on hand to ask any questions you may have…
You’ll also find the summarised version and the full executive report on the feedback page of this website. This feedback and your input at the Planning for Real sessions (see Events & Consultation page) on 20th & 27th October (2 - 4pm or 4.30 - 6.30pm) will inform the final design which will be put together by a Landscape Architect.
Student Council representatives from Peacehaven Infants, Hoddern Juniors and Meridian Juniors joined with Peacehaven Community School student council recently to help paint sections of a large scale model of the new park site and adjoining area.

Once completed, the map sections will be mounted on boards with cardboard models of houses and buildings put on them, and will be used for a series of Planning for Real community workshops to be held in the town in September.

At the Planning for Real workshops we will be asking you to help us decide on where the different items and areas for sports, green spaces, planting and play areas could be, we will be looking at costs of the items and discussing what is, and what is not possible to have in the park.

Local authority representatives (planners, police etc) will be on hand at the workshops to discuss potential problem areas for residents and aim to work out solutions. They will also be there to talk to you about your ideas regarding the new park development and try and answer any questions you may have about it.

The dates & locations of the Planning for Real workshops will be published on here in the Events & Consultations section in August.
On Thursday 23 June the Big Parkies, Elena, Jacob, Olly, Chloe, Jamie & Megan, Nikki Hussey from Peacehaven Community School; Geoff & Thyone from Lewes District Council’s Parks Department and me, Jackie from the Big Parks Project met up to view the site of the new park for the first time.

Follow the footprint to see some pictures of our trip. Photos taken by Jacob.

First to arrive [L-R] Olly, Jamie, Chloe & Jacob pose for a picture outside the site office with Geoff and me at the front looking like proud parents…

Dressed in hi-vis we set off to the site of the new park led by James York from 4D.

On our way, Chloe & Jamie up front with Elena & Megan following close behind…

… following the marked out path, the site of the big park lies ahead.

Passing by the massive ventilation pipes which will go on the treatment plant…

Plenty of rubble on the way…

But wild flowers can grow on piles of earth - we saw these on our approach to the grassed area of the park…

Chloe has her first look at the park from the levelled grass looking towards Cissbury Avenue end. The completed park will extend way beyond the fenced off area towards Bollens Bush.

Looking the other way along the grass is the back of Peacehaven Community School.
Southern Water diggers continue work at Cissbury Avenue end of the park. Lewes District Council manage the Bollens Bush nature area seen in the background.

The floodlights of Peacehaven & Telscombe FC sit along the one of the boundaries…

…. and one of the new housing estates also marks a boundary.
The roof of the treatment plant will be turfed in September. This plant eventually be fenced off to provide the northern boundary of the new park.

Jamie (and all of us) had a wild and windy time…
